There are two varieties of collie's- the rough and the smooth. Both are believed to have originated in the Scottish Highlands. Sometimes called the Scottish Collie, the dog was originally bred to assist in the herding and guarding of sheep. It's popularity increased in the early 1800's when Queen Victoria took fancy with them. The first English Collie was imported into the United States in 1879. The collie is a picture of true balance and proportion and is considered to be one of the most beautiful breeds.
